557447_174658809321546_100003322835830_255605_1290129862_nPM Baburam Bhattarai kicked off a week-long cleaning campaign with a broomstick in his hand, cleaning the street in front of the Constituent Assembly building, Baneshwor.

PM Bhattarai was joined by senior government officials and hundreds of volunteers and municipal employees. Also joining the campaign were army and police personnel and students.

The cleaning campaign is part of an ambitious National Volunteer Campaign launched by the government. For one week, volunteers will clean the roads and rivers in the Kathmandu Valley.

Bhattarai said the government came up with the campaign in order to establish a culture of volunteerism. The government aims to mobilise volunteers for development works in areas of sanitation, construction of school buildings and commercial farming across the country.
