After being criticised for running the country without a political consensus in the aftermath of CA dissolution, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has called for an all party meeting. The meeting which has been scheduled for Tuesday morning at 8 am at Singha Durbar is a crucial one and it is expected to finally end two months of political stalemate. The opposition has been maintaining that it would not sit for talks without Bhattarai tendering his resignation which the later has refused to do without finding an alternative. “If the meeting is able to forge a consensus on an alternative, he will resign immediately.”, said PM’s secretary Bishwadeep Pandey.
The meeting will focus on three major issues, the budget, elections and forging a consensus among the parties on crucial issues. Interestingly, Bhattarai has also sent invitation to newly formed CPN-Maoist led by Mohan Baidya and Madhes Socialist Party led by Sarat Singh Bhandari. Bhattarai’s invitation to the parties also comes a day following ex-King Gyanendra Shah’s controversial television interview in which he criticised the political parties for their failures and hinted that if the situation favours, the institution of monarchy may soon be reinstated.
