President Ram Baran Yadav has urged the major parties to find a way out of political gridlock and complete peace process and constitution drafting.

During a meeting with the top leaders of the Maoists, Nepali Congress and UML at Rastrapati Bhawan on Wednesday, President Yadav said he was ready to lend all possible support from his side and requested the leaders to bail the country out of the present crisis.

The President urged the parties to do all they can and resolve the present problems through talks, Congress President Sushil Koirala told reporters after the meeting.

Prime Minister’s Press Advisor Prakash Jwala said the President cautioned the parties that the 31 August deadline is approaching fast and it is high time for forging national consensus on peace process and constitution drafting.

In the meeting, the top leaders set forth their party views. Congress and UML said the ball was lying in the Maoist court since the biggest party should take up more responsibility.

Koirala said his party’s has no work to do and that it was Maoist turn to get the work done. “The Prime Minister also said that the Maoist party now has a special responsibility to carry out. I also told the President that the ball lies in the Maoist court.”

The Maoist party said that since the party has already decided to implement commitments on peace process and no stone will be left unturned for this, promising of a ‘breakthrough’. “We will come with a breakthrough. We will wholeheartedly work for peace process,” Jwala quoted Maoist Chairman Prachanda as saying in the meeting.

Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal apprised the meeting of latest political situation and reiterated that the government was committed for the formation of a national consensus government and peace process.
