Despite call for calm by top political leaders, violent protests over boundaries of federal provinces continue in the mid-western region.
Particularly Surkhet and Jumla districts remain tense, with protesters hurling stones and police firing in the air to disperse the agitators.
A protester has been injured in police firing in Jumla, where the locals are agitated for a separate autonomous Karnali province. They are against integration of Karnali with the far-western province.
In Surkhet, protesters have demanded a probe into Monday's police firing and actions against whoever had ordered it. Two people were killed when police opened fire after protesters vandalised Nepali Congress (NC) leader Purna Bahadur Khadka's house in Surkhet on Monday. One more protester died in a stampede.
Even on Tuesday, police opened fire in the air after protests turned violent. Even though the top leaders promised revision of their six-province federalism deal, hundreds of locals marched on the streets and demanded an undivided Midwestern region. They are against the deal as it divides the mid-western region between the fifth and sixth provinces.
Protesters have called shutdowns in other districts like Bardiya, Rukum, Salyan, Humla and Jajarkot as well.
