An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale hit 72 km northeast of Kathmandu. A sudden sharp jolt was felt in the capital at 6:52 pm on Monday.

The United States Geological Survey’s Earthquake Hazards Program confirms that the epicentre lies across the Nepal-China border near Chongdui in China.
