Senior justice at the Supreme Court, Khilraj Regmi has been appointed the new Chief Justice of Nepal effective from Friday. Regmi was sworn in to the post by President Ram Baran Yadav on friday after the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee endorsed his name.

Regmi’s predecessor Ram Prasad Shrestha, who retired on thursday spoke to the media persons at the Supreme Court and extended his best wishes to Regmi and hoped that his successor would continue the campaign to end all forms of malpractices that are prevalent in the judiciary. The ex-chief justice was widely popular for initiating corruption probe that saw powerful politicians and businessmen being indicted for abuse of power and money laundering.
