The Nepali government opened its embassy in Manama, Bahrain. Foreign Secretary Arjun Bahadur Thapa and his Bahraini counterpart Karim Ebrahim Al-Shaker inaugurated the embassy on 19 December at its premises in Juffair. The establishment of the new embassy will open up new avenues of cooperation between the two countries in trade, tourism, economic cooperation, and employment opportunities for Nepali nationals.
Foreign Secretary Thapa also stated that Nepal and Bahrain have maintained friendly relations ever since the establishment of diplomatic relations. He further added that both the countries had a problem-free relation and had common views on various regional and international issues including in the United Nations.
Likewise, Karim Ebrahim Al-Shaker offered his congratulations and attached high importance to its relations with Nepal. He also stated that Bahrain hosted around 35,000 Nepali workers and looked forward to expanding cooperation in the days to come.
Earlier, Thapa held a meeting with Al-Shaker in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of in Manama and took stock of the bilateral relations. He also requested the Bahrain government to explore further opportunities for deepening bilateral cooperation including for the increase of the number of Nepali workers to which the Bahraini side agreed to consider positively.
The government has appointed Under Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Durga Bahadur Subedi as the chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of Nepal in Bahrain.
