The Supreme Court on Sunday issued an order, directing the concerned government authorities to arrange for people to cast negative vote during elections.
Supreme Court's Bench of justices Kalyan Shrestha and Prakash Wasti delivered the order responding to a writ petition filed by Swagat Nepal, Bhairaja Rai and the organisation Myaket Nepal demanding right to reject.
As per the apex court order, citizens will have the choice to negatively mark candidates during election and reject them as unworthy of being elected. The court order will be effective for parliamentary as well as local body elections.
Nepal is now among the fifteen countries with the provision of negative voting in elections.
