The leaders and cadres of the UML have expressed contradictory views about the seven-point deal inked by their party chairman and now the prime minister, Jhal Nath Khanal and Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Speaking at an interaction organized in the capital on Sunday, politburo member of the UML, Prakash Jwala said that objections to the seven-point deal meant foiling the peace process. He added that as the UML standing committee had clarified the deal, it was unnecessary to impede the political progress merely on this issue.
However, central member of the UML, Jagannath Khatiwada said that as the UML and the Maoists cannot accomplish the duties on peace process and constitution-writing alone, there was no alternative to amending the seven-point deal. He argued that to conclude the peace process and writing constitution, it is essential to include the Nepali Congress and the Madhes-based parties in the government, he argued.
However, another leader of the party Rijman Ansari said the seven-point was already discussed among the senior leaders of the UML and the Maoist and party’s politburo meeting on Monday will endorse it.
