The High Level Taskforce formed to resolve contentious issues pertaining to constitution drafting is close to making decision on providing a single citizenship from the centre in the new constitution.
Holding discussions on the report prepared by the Committee on Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles under the Constituent Assembly, the taskforce members stood one on ensuring people's right to citizenship with their provincial identity and distributing citizenship from the centre.
"Broad discussions were held on providing single citizenship from the centre, but no decision to this effect has been made," said Ramesh Lekhak, a taskforce member.
The taskforce, whose tenure is expiring tomorrow, is holding another meeting Thursday morning to finalise the issue.
