Six members of a family, including four children, have died after eating rotis made of wheat flour in Pida village of Dhading district.
They fell sick immediately after eating rotis on Sunday night. While some died in the village itself, others died after being brought to Kathmandu.
Dhading's Chief District Officer Basudev Ghimire told Nepali Times that the wheat flour, from which the rotis were made, was laced with pesticide. The Tamang family had used pesticides to protect the wheat seeds. They then grinded the same seeds to make wheat flour.
Seven more members of the same family have fallen sick after eating poisonous rotis. They have been brought to Kathmandu for treatment.
Police have identified the deceased as 60-year-old Santa Bahadur Tamang and his 35-year-old daughter-in-law Phulmaya Tamang. Others deceased are Phulmaya's four children: Sumitra (7) Sanu Arjun (6), Ramesh (5) and Kanchhi (2).
