The Sub-Committee led my Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been tasked to resolve all the disputes related to constitution drafting process.
A meeting of the Constitutional Committee (CC) held today decided to give continuity to the Sub-Committee without extending its tenure, mandating it to submit progress reports to the CC in every 10 days.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said the meeting decided to continue forging consensus on disputed issues of statute drafting in line with the five-point agreement as well as preparing the draft of the new constitution on the basis of the decisions of the Sub-Committee.
The Sub-Committee's deadline had expired on 27 May.
In the meeting, CC Chairman Nilambar Acharya said of the 240 knotty issues of constitution drafting, 21 issues, including state restructuring, forms of governance and elections system, are waiting for consensus. Number of states, fundamental rights, right to self-determination and political prerogative, preamble, provision of constitution amendment, duties of citizens and provision on Nepal Army are among the other disputed issues.
