CPN-UML leader Subash Nembang has been elected to the post of Speaker and Chairperson of the Constituent Assembly on Tuesday evening.

Acting CA Chairperson Surya Bahadur Thapa announced the name of Nembang as the next Chief after political parties present in the parliament extended their support to Nembang without opposition.

UML Parliamentary Party (PP) leader KP Oli proposed the name of Nembang, while NC general secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula supported the proposal.

The third largest party UCPN (Maoist) too extended 'critical support' to Nembang along with RPP-N, RPP and other parties which attended the House.

Earlier, as a respect to the seven-point agreement signed between Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, the NC had announced that it would support the candidacy of Nembang.

Lawmakers present in the House today, however, urged Nembang not to delay the process inside the House in the name of 'forging consensus', as it was done previously. This is Nembang's third term as the Speaker and Chairperson of the parliament.
