The meeting of the High Level Taskforce today ended without any concrete agreement.

In the meeting, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML lobbied for making press freedom, rule of law, human rights, independent judiciary and period election unamendable issues, while the Unified CPN (Maoist) proposed for sovereignty and republic as the only unamendable issues. Maoist leader Dev Gurung said that the list of unamendable issues of the new constitution shouldn't be made long.

The taskforce, however, agreed to amend the constitution by two-third members of the parliament. It also ruled out the need to hold a referendum to amend the constitution.

With the deadline of the taskforce expiring tomorrow, 27 parties in the Constituent Assembly are holding a meeting on 13 December to decide on its extension.

After the meeting, CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal said that the parties will extend the deadline of the taskforce as its achievements are praiseworthy.

Another meeting of the taskforce will be held tomorrow morning.
