Most of the political parties participating in a meeting of 27 political parties today were positive about extending the term of the high-level taskforce.
The taskforce was formed two months ago by the 27 parties to settle contentious issues regarding constitution-writing. Its term expired two days ago. The taskforce was headed by Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal
However, Dahal was not present at the meeting and the leaders decided to take a decision on the extension only after holding discussion with its coordinator.
Talking to the media following the meeting, CA Chairman Subash Nembang said that the meeting discussed the report of the taskforce and whether to extend its term.
"The taskforce has done well. If it continues works at this pace, the basis of constitution making will be prepared," added Chairman Nembang.
However, voicing his party's opinion, UCPN-Maoist leader Dev Gurung said that it was better to reinvigorate the formal mechanisms formed to make constitution rather than extend the taskforce's term.
The next meeting is scheduled for 16 December.
