At a time when the opposition parties are gearing for street protests against the government, the leader of main opposition party Nepali Congress met UCPN-M chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal. The two met at Koirala’s residence in Maharajgunj on Monday evening, hours after CPN-Maoist chairman Mohan Baidya and other leaders of the party held meeting with Koirala.
The meeting focused on ways to resolve outstanding issues of constitution drafting. Koirala is said to have advised Dahal to play a crafting role in creating an environment for national consensus. NC president also expressed his displeasure over government’s decision to bring out full budget without taking the other parties in confidence. After the meeting Maoist supremo talked to media and said the meeting was continuation to the confidence building measures among the parties which began last week at NC party office.“The meeting has certainly helped to build mutual trust ahead of tomorrow’s all party meeting.”, said Dahal.
The parties will look to forge a common understanding on all contentious issues in tomorrow’s meeting.
