President Ram Baran Yadav has extended the time for formation of a national consensus government by three days.  The earlier deadline expired on Sunday.

The extension came after an all-party meeting held at Singha Darbar agreed to continue the ongoing efforts for a consensus, and thereby request the President to extend the deadline by three days.

The parties now have until 5.00 pm of 24 August to reach to a consensus to form the next government.

President Yadav has expressed confidence that the political parties will reach to a consensus, elect a Prime Minister and a Council of Ministers within the extended period of time.

The President had given a seven days time, until today, to select the next Prime Minister based on a consensus as per Article 38 (1) of the Interim Constitution, after Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal resigned on 14 August.
