The meeting of the 27 opposition parties held at CPN-UML office in Balkhu on Tuesday afternoon has decided to oppose government’s move to bring budget. The meeting also decided to appeal to the President Ram Baran Yadav not to endorse the budget ordinance.

CPN-UML leader Madhav Nepal talked to the media after the meeting and said, “ This government is a caretaker and cannot bring out popular programs through budget.” Twenty seven parties including Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, RPP, RJP among others decided to launch a strong movement against the government in the coming days.

Few hours later, leaders of the two major opposition parties NC and UML went to the Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s residence in Lazimpat where they held meeting with leaders of the ruling coalition. In the meeting, Dahal presented four proposals, each related with the formation of government under the NC leadership, the budget, settling of outstanding issues related with the constitution drafting and on the elections. The Maoist and the Madhesi leaders insisted that the parties sign a package deal on the government formation and other issues but the opposition leaders rejected the proposal maintaining that the government must first resign in order to create an environment for consensus.
