Top leaders of the Unified CPN (Maoist), the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML held a discussion on the special session of the Parliament and ways to end the present political deadlock at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction today.
In the meeting, the NC and the UML urged the Maoist party to withdraw its proposal to call a special session of the Parliament and be ready to go for regular session.
However, the Maoists told the parties that the special session was called as per the request of lawmakers, although there is no provision for a special session in the constitution. The Maoists requested them to help end the present government-less situation through this session and hold a fresh round of prime ministerial election.
"Discussions were held on ways to move ahead through consensus to end the political deadlock and starting a special session. But the session has been postponed and the parliament will meet on 23 December," Maoist Vice-Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha said.
UML leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari said that the talks centralised on concluding the special session and preparing for regular sessions.
Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai; Congress President Sushil Koirala, leaders Ram Chandra Poudel, Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Arjun Narsingh KC; and UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal, senior UML leader and Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal were present in the meeting.
