Parliament failed to elect a new prime minister even in the sixth round of election today. Neither of the candidates was able to obtain a simple majority of 301 votes to form a new government.

UCPN (Maoist) candidate Pushpa Kamal Dahal obtained 240 votes in his favour, 6 votes down from the 246 he received in the fifth. 504 lawmakers participated in the election. While 101 lawmakers voted against him, 163 chose to stay neutral.

A total of 536 lawmakers participated during the voting process for NC candidate Ram Chandra Poudel. He received 122 votes in his favour, 2 votes down from the previous round. 242 members voted against him and 172 opted for ‘no-voting’.

The Madhesi Janadikar Forum (MJF) walked out of the House just as the voting procedure commenced as a protest against the decision of United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) to take a neutral stance during the election. MJF has 25 CA members.
