United Democtratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), the front of three Madhesi parties, TMLP, MJF-Loktantrik and Sadbhawana Party have taken a U turn in their stance on the future of Constituent Assembly. The three parties, who are holding mass meatings in the Terai districts revealed their latest position on CA during a program at Madhesi Journalists Society in Birgunj on Tuesday. Until few days back they were consistent and unequivocal in their demands to scrap the CA and go for a new mandate. But now they have called for a new consensus government as a pre-requisite to extension of the CA.

Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik) chairman Bijay Kumar Gachhadar, who had been insisting that the relevance of the present CA is over has now said that the term of CA should be extended by taking UDMF into confidence. He warned that ignoring the Madhesi parties will result in “dire consequence” for the nation and invite unrest in Terai. Terai Madhes Loktantrik Party (TMLP) chairman Mahanta Thakur said that the “constitution written under leftist majority government would not be acceptable”.

The leaders also reiterated that ignoring UMDF in the national consensus government will not help the cause for peace and constitution.
