After much deliberation, the CPN-UML has finalised its General Convention for  7-14 June this year. The grand assembly of the second largest party will select its new party leadership.

The final date for convention was fixed after the UML leaders agreed to postpone an earlier agreed date in April. “We would have less time to prepare ourselves for the April convention. That’s why, it has been decided to be held in June,” said UML’s central committee member, Krishna Gopal Shrestha.

The central committee meeting that lasted for 11 days took the final decision regarding the convention. As per the decision, a committee has been formed under the leadership of party Chairperson Jhalanath Khanal to write an official report to be presented in the convention.

Party Senior Leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and Parliamentary Party Leader KP Oli are likely to contest for the coveted post of party chairperson. Incumbent party chief Khanal has already declared that he would not compete for the post again.
